Depart the Lihue Airport and fly down the sunny south shore, Kipu Kai (nicknamed the Baby Napali Coast), the 5-Star Grand Hyatt Hotel which borders the legendary Shipwreck Beach, Poipu Beach, Lawai Beach (where the home of Tattoo and Mr. Roarke in the hit TV series Fantasy Island is located), the Spouting Horn, and over to Hawaii’s largest coffee plantation (Kauai Coffee). Hanapepe Valley – where Manawaiopuna waterfall is located (which is also known as the Jurassic Falls), Olokele Valley, and a big u-turn inside the Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific).

Descending over open fields to Polihale Beach (the largest beach in Hawaii that is 16 miles long) and covering the sacred NaPali coastline. The 21 mile long Napali Coast consists of Nualolo Valley (where up to 5,000 ancient Hawaiians lived up until 200 years ago), the Cathedrals of Honopu’u, the Honopu’u Arches (where numerous Hollywood hits were filmed), Kalalau Valley and Beach, and over to the lush Hanakapi’ai Valley with its cascading 3,000′ waterfall, then over to the secluded Ke’e beach at the end of the road.

Pass by the northernmost point in Hawaii, Kilauea Lighthouse, and see the sacred nesting spots of the Nene (Hawaiian goose). Fly up the Kilauea River with its mesmerizing waterfall as you continue up the lush Hanalei Valley and experience its jagged 4,000′ cliffs. You will then continue on over the ridge of Mt. Waialeale Crater viewing more waterfalls than you can count, and on to Kilohana Crater (the secondary volcano that helped to create Kauai).

Fly down the Wailua River (the only navigable river in Hawaii), the Fern Grotto and Sleeping Giant with its ancient Hawaiian legends. Pass by Coco Palms where Elvis made the romantic movie “Blue Hawaii”, then along the Gold Coast of Kauai and fly above popular hotels and beaches. Your tour then takes you over rustic Kapa’a Town and the pristine Keali’a Beach. Glide along the Anahola mountain range and view King Kong’s profile. Then head down Wailua Beach, Kauai Beach Resort, Kauai Beach Villas and view the Wailua Golf Course as you head back to the airport. Just before landing, you will see Hanamaulu Beach Park where they filmed “6 Days, 7 Nights” with Harrison Ford.

This tour is perfect if you want your own private tour of Kauai!

Common Questions about the Private Luxury Air Tour

What is the difference between a helicopter tour and an airplane tour?

We are both regulated by the same FAA routes and altitudes. Our flights are usually smoother, we fly much slower, and  you get a much better view of the island with Air Ventures Hawaii. We offer extra-large window seats at no extra charge for all passengers, unlike some helicopters which can have two middle seats. We also have a more lenient weight restriction of 275lbs per passenger on the GA-8 Airvan, and 270lbs per passenger on the Cessna. On some helicopter flights, passengers must pay an additional charge if they weigh over 230lbs. Our tours are a full 60 minutes long unlike helicopter tours which are usually between 45-50 minutes of flying time. We are the most cost-effective way to see the island. Read more about Helicopter Tours vs. Airplane Tours.

Do you offer transportation?

Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, we are unable to provide transportation for cruise ship passengers at this time. We hope to resume in the future.

Are taxes and fuel surcharges included in the price?

Taxes and fuel surcharges are included (credit card and booking fees may be additional) in the Big Kahuna Air Tour and Private Cessna Tours.

What if the weather is bad? Do we get a refund?

Should your flight be delayed or canceled due to inclement weather, we will make every effort to reschedule you. In the event that rescheduling is not possible, you will receive a refund. We recommend you book your tour to fly early in your stay. We definitely do not want you to miss seeing our “Island Paradise” from above.

Are pilot gratuities Included?

Gratuities are not included in our tour prices. It's entirely up to each individual whether or not to tip your pilot although it is very much appreciated when you do.

Will I see as much from the airplane as in a helicopter?

You will actually see more of our "Island Paradise" with us because you will get a panoramic view, unlike helicopters flying below the ridge lines which may obstruct your view. Unlike most helicopter tours which average approximately 48 minutes, our tours are a full 60 minutes, we fly much slower, so you see much more.

Will I see everything in your tour description?

Every attempt will be made by our pilots to cover each site described, weather permitting. Pilots will adjust their flight path for wind and weather and may include alternate sites. You will have the very best air tour of Kauai possible on the day of your tour! However, your safety and comfort always come first!

How is your safety record?

We have a perfect safety record with no accidents or incidents. Our pilots are all highly trained professionals.

How long has AirVentures been in business?

Air Ventures Hawaii has been in business since 2004. The current owner was a partner in Fly Kauai and Tropical Biplanes when in 2013 he acquired Air Ventures Hawaii merging the two companies and purchasing a new Waco Biplane and Cessna 182.

What should I wear?

We recommend you wear comfortable clothing. If you are comfortable on the ground you should be equally comfortable in the airplane. We do, however, recommend wearing a color other than white to reduce any glare from our bubble windows in the Airvans.

Should we bring a camera?

Yes, we encourage passengers to bring their cameras. You will achieve beautiful photos with any lens. We can also mount your Go-Pro on the exterior of our airplane for a fee of $35.00 should you desire. We also make our GoPro available for rent for $55.00, and we give you the SD card following your tour.

What is the best tour?

Every Kauai air tour we offer encompasses the entire Island. You will experience Jurassic Falls, Waimea Canyon, Napali Coast, Kilauea Lighthouse, Hanalei Valley, Waialeale Crater, Wailua Falls, Opaekaa Falls, Kilohana Crater and much, much more. Our most popular tour is the Big Kahuna Tour because it is our most cost-effective tour. We're sure you will be happy with any of our tours.

How many passengers can go on a private tour?

Our Private Cessna Tour, accommodates two or three guests in the same party, within weight restrictions, of course. Please call us prior to booking the Private Cessna Tour for verification of weights.

Cancellation Policy

A 48-hour cancellation or change of tour notice is required for all airplane tours.
